Pizzica and folk dances
The project aims to rediscover and develop costumes and traditions of our land through rhythms and dances such as “Pizzica”, “Tarantella” and “Tammurriate”, representative of Puglia history and culture.
It will be presented a historical overview of “Pizzica” as South of Italy typical dance, especially in Puglia and Campania regions. The “Pizzica” history and implication will be analyzed taking into account different aspects and meanings as for example courtship, fun, friendship, learning and challenge. “Pizzica Salentina” and “Pizzica della Bassa Murgia” execution will be then explored in depth. The folk dances overview will continue focusing on another emblematic expression of southern italy culture and tradition: the “Tammurriata”.
The “Tammurriata” is characterized by strict binary rhythm, by intense arms’ dynamics and by the use of castanets (“Nacchere”). The “Nacchere” provide not only the basic rhythm but also require a particular kinetics of hands, arms and body. People can only dance in pairs.
Simplified version of Folk Dances of other Countries and Nationalities will be also proposed (in particular European and Mediterranean) to encourage the integration with people having different cultures and traditions. This will highlight and emphasize the importance and the value
of each tradition on intercultural communications perspective, which means openness to other people integration.
