Boat tours

The cliff of Polignano a Mare offers an unforgettable sight even to people who do not visit the sea beds. Indeed, on a rubber dinghy it is possible to explore all the Polignano’s coast with a visit to the marine grottos, some of which are under the town.

Polignano_grotte1Comfortably shipping on our rubber dinghy with maximum 12 places, you have the opportunity to discover unexpected seascapes; we will see together all the coast characterized by numerous grottoes dug in the rock by the erosive action of the sea. This delineates a particularly interesting territory from a speleological point of view and contributes to create a so beautiful coast, which makes this town rare to the point of being unique. It is possible to visit many grottoes and some of them are just under the town, and, not seldom, they are one with cellars.

The routes wind for all the 12 kilometres of coast to let you admire the wonderful creeks called Cala PontePolignano_grotte2, Cala Porto, Cala Sala, Cala Incina and the characteristic natural inlet called Cala Paura, which is destination of numerous scuba divers, because it is easily reachable, and where there is, at just 12 metres, a little grotto easy to come through.

The most famous grotto is Grotta Palazzese (Palace’s Grotto), so defined because of its majesty and maybe because it belongs to Miani family, once feudal lords of  Polignano.

Thanks to the presence of many underground waterways and of an unchanged ecosystempolignano3, the sea beds of Polignano keep unique species of flora and fauna arousing much attention in the scientific field, and there are more and more people who find interesting to see more closely such species through scuba divings.

Qualified and well-informed guides will let you spend a really beautiful day in this small city on a cliff overlooking the sea, they will describe each uncontaminated corner of the coast, will help you to understand every little nuance of a hidden world that you should completely explore. The trip by rubber dinghy can be completed with a guided visit to the Polignano a Mare old city centre or through divings both for beginners and professionals.

Period: From spring on, and only if the sea meteorological conditions are acceptable.

Advices: We advice sportswear and comfortable shoes; during warm days it is better to have a little hat or a bandana. During the stopovers it is possible to have a bath.
