PROGRAMME
1st DAY: ARRIVAL
Transfer or individual arrival to Alberobello; meeting with the guide for course explanation, bikes and information material allocation. Overnight stay.
2nd DAY: OSTUNI – MARTINA FRANCA – ALBEROBELLO (about 70 km)
We start visiting Ostuni and its suggestive old city centre by bike. After Ostuni, you discover the wonderful baroque palaces of Martina. We go on towards Alberobello, city unique in its genre, UNESCO heritage site since 1996, known all over the world as the “Trulli Capital”. We go back home crossing a wide expanse of vineyards and olive groves which produce renowned oil and wines.
3rd DAY: BARSENTO, NOCI, MARTINA FRANCA, LOCOROTONDO, S. MARCO, S. LUCIA (65 km)
Today we leave the Trulli to discover Valle d’Itria (Itria Valley) and enjoy its beautiful background: Noci with its gastronomy, the Locorotondo old city centre, San Marco and Santa Lucia districts. Then we go back to Alberobello with its accurately restored Trulli in full respect of the local architecture.
4th DAY: MESAGNE, TUTURANO, CERANO, BORGO GRAPPA, LECCE (50 km)
Relaxing ride in the direction of Salento. We start from Mesagne, along the age-old Via Appia; across fertile verdant fields and meadows, we visit first of all Tuturano, then Cerano and Borgo Grappa, before arriving to Lecce, the Baroque capital, centre of numerous cultural attractions, and charming city because of its suggestive cathedral and of the typical workshops scattered around the city.
5th DAY: MARINA SAN GIOVANNI, GALLIPOLI, PORTO CESAREO (55 km)
A sweet stage offering a ride through Salento’s vineyards and wine cellars along the road named Strada Appia of Wines, where wines like Malvasia Nera of Brindisi, Negroamaro and Ottavianello are produced. The route continues to the wonderful Gallipoli’s coasts and Porto Cesareo, Ionic city with enchanting beaches and crystal clear sea.
6th DAY: OTRANTO – SANTA CESAREA TERME – CASTRO MARINA – SANTA MARIA DI LEUCA
Today we visit Otranto, wonderful city destroyed by the Turks in 1841, and then we visit splendid coastal cities such as Cesarea Terme, Castro Marina and Santa Maria di Leuca, at the very heel of Italy.
7 th DAY: DEPARTURE
After breakfast, team and guide say goodbye to you.
